My Weekend So Far

So yesterday (Friday), I participated in a MICCA festival with a small orchestra in my town - we got GOLD! and will perform again next week at either Mechanic's Hall or Symphony Hall next week.

Then I did it again with my high school's orchestra today. We got silver, but it was pretty awesome. Then I went back home, finally got a new strap for my violin (I had broken my last one a few weeks back), had ice cream (may the lords of gluttony smile down upon Dad), then took a walk where I ended up pondering a replacement for the United States Constitution. Now, I'm blogging and doing some final work on a new EP for [insert meme], which should come out quite soon.

Yup. Life is pretty epic right now.

Sleepless

I started this drum and bass track a week ago, and finished it over the weekend. Enjoy!

My music: brain burn

I made this in math class last Friday. I was supposed to be reviewing for a quiz while the teacher was out.

My Music: bloody ears-2

I made dubstep. Because, you know, it solves everything.
Made with Pixitracker 1-bit.
EDIT: reuploaded with a fixed ending

My Music: dorkenstein

I made a song today!
Well, actually I started it yesterday. These days, I go my violin lessons 20-30 minutes early (scheduling conflicts). This time I brought my iPod, and, using PixiTracker, I made a drum and bass song which I called "dorkenstein," for some reason.
I finished it today, because I can't stop! stop stop stop stop
But when I uploaded it, SoundCloud mistook it for a copy of some lame rap song. Weird.
But here it is!

My Music: Pixitracker Stuff

Pixitracker is a music software I got a while ago. Basically, it's this little iOS/Android app that makes retro-style music. I got the 1-bit version, which is something like a dollar $2, and makes really crappy-sounding, unmasterable "music" with simple samples.
And it is amazing. I got back into using it this week, and I've been plugging away during school. It's one of the best ways to burn time, and unlike Reddit, it makes you more energized, not less.
On to the music:
I made this a long time ago, but finally exported it this week.

I made this two days ago, and exported it today.

And last but not least, one I finished just today.
Enjoy!

Music I Wrote: "Made of Win"

Some music I made today - a kind of hip-hop/skweee thing. You like it?

And a crappy DnB-i-fied remix of the above song - because I can. All I did was tweak the tempo.
Enjoy!

EDIT: I just realized that this is my 100th post. WIN!!! Indeed, I am *cue sunglasses* made of win.

A Remix I Made

I made a remix of a song by this guy, who was kind enough to let me trash his music.
The original, a chill, FM-synth-based piece not out of place in some Wii feature.

And my remix, where I went all 80's dance.

Enjoy!

Sugar - A remix a made a while back.

Yes, I make music.
This is a remix of Stanley Turrentine's "Sugar" that I made a week back. I played the song last year in my school's jazz band, and just loved the complex melody and chords and so on. So I stole it (kind of).
Enjoy!

Moxie

I made a new song called "Moxie." It's based off a harpsichord line, which I covered with a pile of effects and a square wave solo. Hope you like it!

E5 - Theme

Yeah! This took almost a month to complete; I put it up a week ago, and now it's on the blog!

E5 - Theme by PandaPlaysPunk
So first, I made the basic bassline thingy, then I recorded the improvised violin solo, then I put in all the accents like the strings and brass. That really made the song come alive!
The closing part is coming soon, as well as some more improvved violin solos; they are way too much fun.

E5

I'm baaack! Summer vacation, prior commitments, mic troubles, and a shortage of roller ball pens conspired to prevent me from posting! Anyway, here's a new thing I'm working on. It's a variations-on-a-theme kind of mini-project that involves my solo music project, Panda Plays Punk and my band, Cracked Perspective, will hopefully end up as an EP for Panda Plays Punk, and will probably involve my embarrasing myself by emailing people more famous than I. (Not the first time)
I have 2 versions (Okay, one-and-a-half) of "E5" done already. First...the Introduction!
This is an introduction-y kind of piece. This will kick off the EP, and is very hip-hop-y. (I think?) Need a dramatic way to enter? Blast this out!
Second...The Cracked Perspective version!
This is a legit song that I wrote in the past week. The actual lyrics only took a day or two, but it took another few days to get the instrumental recorded. But now I have both!
The lyrics are very morbid...just FYI...

Try to give a speech
But you don't have a voice
Yell 'till your throat hurts
But can't get past the noise

This is my despair
To haunt me every day
I can't make a mark
No one hears what I say

Try to save the world
Even though you can't
Try to find a gem
When there is only sand

(Chorus)
Da ba ba bada ba (x4)

So much there is to gain
If I'm one of a kind
So many doors to fame
But none that I can find

(Chorus)

But somehow I still try
To reach into the stars
To find some tiny chance
That I'll go somewhere far

I have myself convinced
That I can learn to fly
For simply sitting still
Is my version of crime

(Chorus) (x2)

...Yup...don't say I didn't warn you about morbidness...The instrumental is right here.
E5 - Cracked Perspective Version by PandaPlaysPunk
A quick note: the piano is basically going through the same rhythm, notes, and effects that the actual vocals will go through, though I might do some tweaking here and there; this is by no means done.
And there you have it; one-and-a-half versions of "E5." I'm also planning a supersad lyricless "closing" piece, and a frenetic violin solo that will be the theme of "E5."

More Music!

8-Bit Gamer
My solo music project, Panda Plays Punk, has just put a new piece on YouTube and SoundCloud called "8-Bit Gamer." This time, I drew up some art to go with the song.
"Stargazer" - The song is now on iTunes...and practically every other online music store I could find... There's a player of the final version on the sidebar.
Here are the lyrics, an old demo, and a newer demo.
So please buy it! You'll have to search for it in iTunes, though. (Searching "Cracked Perspective" should work) Thanks!

New Vids on YouTube!

Yup, I got some music on YouTube after an eon or two. Here goes:
Stand!: This is the Panda Plays Punk way of making "inspirational" music. Piano, strings, fake synth-junk, and those poorly made keyboard-derived drums.
Stargazer: This is a song from my band, Cracked Perspective, which I have put up here before. The change: I have some art that goes with the song, and I now have the intention of putting the song on iTunes. Please comment on YouTube if you can; I'm using the critiques I get there to decide when/how I'll release this.  Update: It's live! http://kidinthestudio.blogspot.com/2011/07/more-music.html

Panda Plays Punk - More Pieces Online!

I posted more music for my music project, Panda Plays Punk.
Here are the 3 things I posted:
Attack of the Squares

Downpour

The Climax

Yup. They're terrible. Oh, well. I had fun. Hope you might not think of it as noise pollution.

Panda Plays Punk - Debut!!!!

Finally I did something! April vacation is cool and all, but it gives you a lethargy that prevents you from doing anything at all. One weekend later, and I'm BACK!
I finally put up a YouTube channel for my music project, now officially named "Panda Plays Punk." I also put up a "video" that posts up a tune. I forgot to tweak how long the text stays on the screen in iMovie, so don't worry about the fact that it looks like nothing's on it.

I Don't Know

This is another song for my still-unnamed solo music project. (I updated the possible-name list). My last song for the project crashed and burned, as it was written on the assumption that I could sing like Jack White.
Boy, am I stupid.
Never mind; I wrote another song that I may or may not be able to sing.
I Don't Know

(Chorus)
I don't know what has gone wrong
Just know that something is wrong
I see it on the TV
See horrors on the TV

I see hate, war, and violence
Why the hate, war, and violence?
I don't know what's happening
Tell me, what is happening?

I don't know why we have war
What is the purpose of war?
I don't see the point to hate
Where do we get all this hate?

(Chorus)

I hear there's no need to fight
Then why send armies to fight?
I want to get the answers
Does someone have the answers?

Does someone have the answers?
Does someone have the answers?
Does someone have the answers?
Does someone have the answers?

I don't know what has gone wrong
Just know that something is wrong
I vow to find and fix it
Seems no one else can do it.

Who Whats To Be Famous?

I'm back to writing songs! This is for my own solo music project, which means I'm...gasp...singing. (I'm still working out the name of the project; I have a few ideas here.) This is really just an experiment, if I can't make my singing sound tolerable, then the project goes away.
Note: I'm writing the song as part of a story featuring a random person who wants to be famous. This is not my personal opinion.
Here's the song:

I am bored
I'm tired of this world I right now see
I want more
My world is now far too small for me

All these doors
Lead to dullness beyond belief
Force us in the mold
'Till only boredom is all we feel

(Chorus)
I want it all
I'll touch the stars no matter the cost
I'll beat the odds
Go and try, but I won't be stopped

I'll be a star
Immortalized on the TV screen
I will go far
I will get every single one of my dreams

I've got the right cards
I little time is all I need
It won't be long
'Till record sales will come to me

(Chorus)

(Violin Solo + Distortion)

I am done
No more mediocrity
I'll be number one
I see that's where I am to be...

There you have it. If the project goes further, then the story will go to songs featuring the character's attempting to be famous, complete with cliffhanger at end....
